Many women—and some men—consider getting a tummy tuck, whose formal name is abdominoplasty. A tummy tuck’s main mission is to create a smoother and flatter abdomen after liposuction hasn’t been sufficient. People pursue tummy tucks after they have been pregnant, lost a significant amount of weight, or time has taken its toll on the abdominal skin’s elasticity. Abdominoplasty eradicates surplus skin and fat, and repairs diastasis (a weakening or separation of abdominal muscles). This surgical procedure is not a substitute for not trying to lose weight through a controlled diet and a proper exercise program.

The office of Jose Rodríguez-Feliz, MD uses state-of-the-art knowledge and technology to perform abdominoplasties with the utmost care and precision. Our team is made up of friendly, highly trained specialists who are eager to help you feel comfortable and relaxed while receiving the very best in plastic surgery care.

Here is how the procedure takes place.

Before the surgery, you’ll get blood tests as part of your medical evaluation. You may be instructed to take particular medications or adjust the meds you’re on at the time. You shouldn’t take aspirin, herbal supplements or anti-inflammatory drugs because they might cause unnecessary bleeding.

Immediately before your operation, your plastic surgeon will decide on your form of anesthesia: intravenous sedation or general anesthesia.

The surgeon will make a horizontal incision between your navel and pubic hairline, and the skin will be lifted. The compromised abdominal muscles are mended. If your upper abdomen has excess skin, a second incision, near your belly button, may be needed to delete it. The incision(s) is then closed with stitches, skin adhesives, tape or clips.

The final results will be evident in a week or two, when your internal healing is done, the swelling has disappeared and you can stand fully upright.

The office of Jose Rodríguez-Feliz, MD is committed to the health of all of our surgery patients. We’ve earned their trust and look forward to earning yours. For more information about our practice and the multitude of plastic surgery services we provide, please contact us today.
