What Is Breast Surgery?

Breast surgery is a blanket term for many different cosmetic procedures designed to produce a variety of different results, from reshaping to resizing your breasts. This is meant to either enlarge breasts, lift breasts, a combination of the two, or reduce breast size. When you meet with Dr. Rodríguez-Feliz, he will evaluate your needs and cosmetic concerns. He will then customize a plan for your procedure.

Why Should I Get Breast Surgery?

Many women find they are unhappy with their breasts for a variety of reasons. Some women find their breasts have changed after childbirth, after changes in weight, or from hormonal shifts. Some women are simply unhappy with the look of their breasts as they age, while others simply wish to improve their overall look. Other times, women have medical reasons, such as uneven breast sizes. In this case, breast surgery can make them symmetrical.

What to Expect During Breast Surgery?

Your specific surgery time depends on what procedure you have done and if it’s combined with any other procedures, although breast surgery is usually considered outpatient surgery. Generally speaking, breast surgery can take up to two hours, and you will be under IV sedation for the entire duration. This is considered outpatient surgery. You’ll then recover in Dr. Rodríguez-Feliz’s accredited surgical facility while you come out of sedation and monitored to make sure there are no complications. Most patients return home within five hours after surgery.

Breast Surgery Procedures

Your procedure will involve incisions under your breasts, under your arms, or around the nipples. This will allow Dr. Rodríguez-Feliz to insert implants, lift your breasts, or remove fat and tissue. He uses an internal bra to improve support and lift. Dr. Rodríguez-Feliz combines Vaser Lipo and J-Plasma to take results to the next level. By contouring the lateral side of the breast he creates the flattering contours and projection sought by so many when wearing bikinis or other revealing clothing.

Breast Augmentation

This procedure is specifically meant to increase the size of your breast through implants. This is also known as augmentation mammoplasty.

Breast Lift

This procedure lifts your breasts by removing excess skin, which tightens the surrounding tissue as well. This is also known as mastopexy.

Breast Lift with Augmentation

This procedure is a combination of the above two. It increases your breast size with implants as well as lifts them through skin removal.

Breast Reduction

In the case of large breasts, you may want to reduce the size of them due to discomfort (such as back pain) or to make them more proportionate to your body. This procedure removes extra tissue, fat, and skin from the breasts. It’s also known as reduction mammaplasty.
